Vioxx

Vioxx, also known as rofecoxib, was a selective Cox-2 inhibitor used to treat pain associated with arthritis. Vioxx was manufactured and marketed by pharmaceutical giant Merck. After Vioxx was pulled from the market in 2004, the lawyers at Carey & Danis knew something must be done. Vioxx was marketed by Merck as a wonder drug that was effective for what it was prescribed as well as safe for consumers to use. Vioxx was uniquely marketed for its ease on the stomach's of its users, something that previous drugs in this category were scorned for. Unbeknownst to the public, Vioxx carried great risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular events.

There are multiple theories as to why Vioxx was associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular events. As with all events that take place in the human body, it cannot be said exactly what the mechanism was that created higher risk of cardiovascular injury associated with Vioxx. One theory is that Vioxx upset the delicate balance between prostacyclin and thromboxane in the clotting mechanism of the body. Upsetting this balance affected the breakdown of clots within the bloodstream. This would explain the higher association of heart attacks and strokes seen in users of Vioxx. Another theory states that the higher incidence is due to Vioxx actually increasing clotting factors within the blood, thereby causing a greater number of clots leading to cardiovascular injury.

The lawyers at Carey & Danis have done copious research on this case and are considered leaders in the field of Vioxx litigation. It is because of this research that we are still accepting Vioxx cases. Although the statute of limitations has run in many states, forever barring claims not already on file, Carey & Danis attorneys have uncovered that there are still states in which claims are not time barred. These states with statutes of limitations longer than the three years that has already passed since the withdrawal of Vioxx include: Florida, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Utah, and Wyoming.

If you live in Florida, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Utah, or Wyoming and experienced a heart attack or stroke, contact one of the lawyers at Carey & Danis immediately to discuss your case.
