Digitek
Digitek tablets, used to treat heart failure and irregular heartbeat, have been recalled because they may contain dangerous double doses. The lawyers of Carey & Danis are offering free consultations to people nationwide who have suffered serious complications after receiving this medication.
Made by Actavis Totowa (formerly known as Amide Pharmaceutical), the prescription drug Digitek (known generically as digoxin) was distributed under the Bertek and UDL labels. In April 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a voluntary recall of all Digitek tables sold under the Bertek and UDL labels because they may contain twice the appropriate amount of the active ingredient.
The double-strength tablets increase the risk of digitalis toxicity, a potentially deadly condition, in patients. Symptoms of digitalis toxicity include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Low blood pressure
- Cardiac instability
- Low heart rate (bradycardia)
The drug maker has received several reports of illnesses associated with the defective drug, some dating as far back as 2006.
